Great thread.

Good looks on the Clark's desert boot. I've been looking for something similar for quite a while, while not breaking my bank.

Just got the email about the sale. (FROM Banana & Republic)

Man, I still can't get myself to like the boots. They don't look too comfy and the lining looks like they can cut your skin if you don't wear thick socks. (I actually had this happened to me on a pair of Kenneth Cole loafers before).

Walk into a Nordstrom when they're having either of their Bi-annual sales and you'll make away like a bandit.

One tip I will give you is this: you can look good in the cheapest fused suit from Express or Banana Republic as long as it fits right and its not a whack pattern. Ideally you want better than that so the suit won't fall apart after wearing it twice. Still, you can buy cheap shirts and suits or whatever and get away with it but if you go cheap on shoes everyone can tell.

Go through this slideshow from GQ: http://men.style.com/gq/fashion/slideshow/v/021908UP
It puts a perspective on how bad some people really dress without knowing it.

actually this slide show is probably better: http://men.style.com/gq/f...s/landing?id=content_7790
check out their shoes and just the general way the clothes fits in the "after"

instead of going all out... start buying 1 or 2 items at a time...and feel your own way to your personal style.

oh...and stop wearing sweatpants to class

+1 on what RFX said. I would like to add by saying...buy quality items that fit you nicely, don't just go for the brand name. The only thing I can't rock from RFX's pix are the boots. image

Edit: For the jeans to be worn casually, I think it's best to get a pair with 'blank' back pockets. That means no designs or embroidered stuff at all. I'm not sure what your body build is, but try the usual stores to see which fits you the best...Express, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Macys.

Dressing nice doesn't have to break the bank either. Getting 'regular' brands that fit you nicely is a 1000x better than having a Gucci polo that fits sloppy.

just remember.... short-sleeve dress shirt + tie = jokes made at your expense

other than that try applying for a Nordstrom credit card. You get rewards gift certificates as you spend. I am sure other stores do that as well but I like Nordstrom's selection the best. Also either once or twice a year they have "Member's or Cardholder's" parties which they close the store early on a Sunday night then reopen it for the cardholders and have insane deals going on. Plus they have finger foods and Margaritas and Piña Coladas. True Story

QFT...serious deals there. idk about everywhere, but here in MN, anything sweater related (sweaters, cardigans, etc.) were $7 for off brands and $15 for brand name (Ralph Lauren)

It is all about how the clothes fit, i cannot stress that enough.

Anyways, you need to start with some khaki's or chino's, nothing baggy and no boot cut.
Darker chino's are versatile as well.
Real dark jeans, with a tapered bottom works too.

You need some non-bulky casual shoe, ie: Jack Purcell's or Stan Smith's. I particularly like how versatile Clarks Desert boot are.

Get some brown shoes, enough said.

Invest in a quality white dress shirt and blue oxford. Trust me, it will get a lot of wear and just plain awesome.
Striped sportshirts couldn't hurt either. Do not forget to tuck it in when appropriate.
imageimageimage

Some V-Neck sweaters or a cardigan, take a pick.
imageimageimage

A navy sportcoat is optional. Pea coats are a good option for cold weathers too.
imageimageimage

A nice belt to match the shoes wouldn't hurt either, although at times, a beltless chino could look real good.
imageimageimage

Don't forget the nice socks.
A9xa 800e F08 SA9xa 800e F18 EA8xa 800e F08 E

Some nice knitted ties to keep it casual.

I intentionally left out polo's to change it up a bit.
Time to move up a bit from polos, trust me.

now all we gotta do is have this movement added to the WDYWT, cuz some dudes in those threads be needing help..
